Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek: A Trek to a Hidden Lake in Manali

Deo Tibba Base Camp trek is, also known as the Chota Chandratal trek, is one of the best treks in the Manali region of Himachal Pradesh(HP). Mount Deo Tibba is visible through the entire trail of the trek. Other peaks of Himalayans like Indrasan and the glaciers of Jagatsukh are also visible. The maximum altitude gained during Deo Tibba is appx 14,698 ft. The emerald blue waters of Hidden Chota Chandrataal lake at the foot of Deo Tibba peak is the biggest highlight of a trek. It is the best six-day trek among all other treks in the Himalayans. Day wise schedule of the Deo tibia base camp trek is as follows.

Day 1: Pick up from Manali Mall Road to Khanol and Trek to Chikka

Total distance: 17km, 4 to 5 hours.

Altitude: Chikka (3136m).

Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Mode of Journey: 12km by Vehicle and 5km by foot.

Accommodation: Tent

You have to reach Manali mall road by 8:00 am. our trek Leader will be there for you to brief the whole trek.  By 9:00 am full team of trekkers will move to Khanol by Vehicle it will take 2 hours to reach there. After reaching Khanol we will start our trek to Chikka. From Khanol to Chikka trekking, took around 2 to 3 hours and by 4:00pm you will reach your first Campsite Chikka.

Day 2: Trek from Chikka to Seri

Total distance: 6 km, 5 to 6 hours.

Altitude: Seri (3600m).

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Mode of Journey: by foot.

Accommodation: Tent

Your day 2 of Deo Dibba Trek will start with Mount Heavens Yoga Session, as you all know Yoga is very impactful for your peace of mind and flexibility of body, So our Trek Leader will give you some Yoga tips. After that, you have time to pack your beg and everything before Breakfast. Breakfast time 7:30am by 8:00am our team of Mount Heavenians will start our trek.

Day 2, you have to trek around 6km which will take 5 to 6 hours to cover this journey. Trail is very beautiful the whole day where you will see huge fields of flowers and rocks all around, and as you walk with river, you will feel the breeze of water also. Today the day is easy and you will reach “Seri”, the second campsite of the trek by 4:00pm. Here a hot cup of tea is waiting for you, after evening tea you will get Dinner by 8:00pm. After dinner day ends with some entertaining games and trek stories.

Day 3: Trek from Seri to Tainta

Total distance: 5km, 4 to 5 hours.

Altitude: Tainta (3900m).

Mode of Journey: by foot.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Tent

Our day starts with Mount Heavens Yoga session, after finishing breakfast we will start our trek to Tainta by 8:00 am. you will get packed lunch. The trail starts with a rocky and steep climb along the waterfall. Making a surprising way behind the waterfall you reached a valley and here you can see your next campsite Tainta. you will be mesmerized by the view of snow-capped mountains all around, after trekking for around an hour you will reach Tainta Campsite by 3:00 pm. A hot cup of tea is waiting for you, after evening tea you will get Dinner by 8:00pm. After dinner, day ends with some entertaining games and trek stories.

Day 4: Trek from Tainta to Chotta Chandrataal via Deo Tibba Basecamp and back to Tainta

Total distance: 10km, 7 hours.

Altitude: At the Lake (4480m).

Mode of Journey: by foot.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Tent

Day 4 will be your “Summit day” because you have to trek up to highest altitude of 4480m (Lake). We will start our day with Yoga session followed with the breakfast and from Tainta we will move to Chotta Chandrataal via Deo Basecamp by 8:00 am.

Trail is pretty hard and the climb is steep, rocky and challenging till chotta Chandrataal and river crossing will be fun while moving on the way, feel the chilled water of the river. After reaching Deo Tibba Base camp trek we will climb up to Chotta Chandrataal which is a rocky and steep climb till you have reached a surprising and most beautiful mini-lake (See in the Picture), after 10 mins of the climb from here and you see a lake which is called Chotta Chandrataal or Mini Chandrataal. Here you are at the altitude of 4480m and all the snow-capped peaks are near to you.

After taking some pictures here we will trek back to our Tainta Campsite by 5:00 pm. Hot Tea with some evening snacks then dinner by 8:00pm day ends with satisfaction of summit point.

Day 5: Trek from Tainta to Chikka

Total distance: 11km, 5 hours.

Altitude: Chikka (3136m).

Mode of Journey: by foot.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Tent

Good morning Mount Heavenians!

Our day starts with a yoga session, after breakfast, we will start today’s trek by 8:00 am. Today we will trek down all the day to Chikka, journey is long but it will be fun as you now become a trekker. Waoo…..

Today you will get packed lunch. After trekking around 5 hours you will reach Chikka. Finishing dinner by 8:00pm. Time to sleep.

Day 6: Trek from Chikka to Khanol and drive back to Manali

Total distance: 2km, 2 hours.

Mode of Journey: 12km by Vehicle and 2km by foot.

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: Not Included

Final day of the trek….

Day 6 we will start our day with some chill time, with Tea and a yummy breakfast. Today’s trek start by 8:00 am we will reach Manali by 12:00 am. Treks end here with happy memories.

Best time to do Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek

The best time to do the Deo Tibba trek is June, July, August, and September. During the day, the temperature remains 10 to 15 degrees and -2 to 5 degrees at night. The temperature may drop to 8° C during July and August.

Things to carry on the Deo Tibba Basecamp trek

  • Trekking shoes: On your trek, you will have to cover a long distance and walk for long.
  • Backpack: You will also need a good backpack with sturdy straps and a supporting frame to keep the necessary things.
  • Clothing: Two trek pants: Carry at least two spare pairs in case your first pant gets wet.
  • Walking stick, head torch, snacks, Medical kit (as per your dr), Sanitizer, and other required things.
